Cosmo Eco Power Co., Ltd. (hereafter, “Cosmo Eco Power”), a subsidiary of Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., announced that, effective May 7, 2025, it has signed virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA; hereafter, “this PPA”) with NTN Corporation (hereafter, “NTN”).

A corporate PPA is a contract under which a consumer directly purchases renewable energy from a power producer. A virtual PPA, meanwhile, is a type of agreement where the consumer procures only the environmental value—not the physical electricity—from a renewable energy plant located at a site other than their own*.

This PPA covers the Chuki Wind Farm operated by Cosmo Eco Power. Having commenced commercial operations in April 2021, the power plant supplies electricity to the Kansai region, where NTN have office and production facilities. In addition to NTN bearings, the operational wind turbines are equipped with the Wind Doctor® Condition Monitoring System (CMS), which is used to monitor operational status, perform preventive inspections, and other related tasks. This marks the first time Cosmo Eco Power has concluded a PPA with a turbine parts supplier.

Under this PPA, NTN will receive approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) worth of environmental value associated with electricity generated at Chuki Wind Farm per year in the form of non-fossil certificates over a 16-year period. This is expected to result in an annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction of approximately 4,200 tons—equivalent to the emissions of about 1,700 households.

As long-standing partners supporting wind power generation in Japan, Cosmo Eco Power and NTN remain committed to mutually accelerating initiatives toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

*Previously, under the Feed-in Premium (FIP) scheme, PPAs involving direct transactions with consumers were only permitted for power plants that commenced operations in 2022 or thereafter. However, with regulatory changes that took effect in April 2025, this restriction based on operational start date was lifted, making it possible to conclude PPAs utilizing the Chuki Wind Farm, which has been operational since April 2021.
