Cosmo Oil Marketing Signs Comprehensive Regional Partnership Agreement with Kanuma City in Support of its Efforts to Become a Zero Carbon City

Cosmo Oil Marketing Co., Ltd. (hereafter, “Cosmo Oil Marketing”), a subsidiary of Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., announced that on March 25 it concluded a basic agreement with Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture, regarding a comprehensive partnership to support the City’s efforts to become a Zero Carbon City (hereafter, “the Agreement”).
As the first step under the Agreement, Cosmo Oil Marketing will start providing public facilities operated by Kanuma City with its renewable energy-derived electricity plan, Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green¹, on April 1. As a result, Kanuma City is expected to reduce its CO2 emissions by approximately 870 tons per year.

◾️Key Points Covered in the Agreement
Under the Agreement, Cosmo Oil Marketing and Kanuma City will collaborate closely on the following matters.
| (1) | Advancing efforts to become a Zero Carbon City |
| (2) | Creating a Regional Circular and Ecological Sphere (Regional CES) |
| (3) | Environmental education for citizens |
Furthermore, to achieve the above objectives, the two parties will undertake initiatives in the areas described below.
| (1) | Initiatives aimed at locally circulating energy |
| (2) | Initiatives related to the repurposing of used cooking oil |
| (3) | Initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of municipal vehicles |
| (4) | Initiatives related to the supply of low-carbon energy to municipal and other facilities |
◾️Initiatives to be Undertaken by the Two Parties
Kanuma City, through the formulation of the Fifth Kanuma City Basic Environmental Plan (Area-Specific Measures), has set a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 46% by FY2030 compared with FY2013 levels. The Agreement is intended to support efforts toward achieving that target, with the City aiming to become a Zero Carbon City (achieving net zero CO2 emissions) by 2050.
Cosmo Oil Marketing will also engage in concrete discussions with Kanuma City on introducing its product, Cosmo Zero Carbon Solution², to further advance the City’s decarbonization efforts.
Going forward, the Cosmo Energy Group will continue collaborating with local governments and companies to advance a range of initiatives aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
- About Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green
Cosmo Denki (Electricity) Business Green is a service that helps businesses achieve net zero CO2 emissions by providing them with added environmental value in the form of non-fossil certificates and other designated renewable energy certificates. By purchasing such certificates in an amount equal to or greater than the total electricity supplied to customers over the year and applying them to the electricity supplied, all electricity used by customers is attributed the environmental value of renewable energy.
