2. Reason for conferment

The medal was awarded in recognition of the Cosmo Energy Group's partnership with Asia Pacific Sustainable Development (APSD), a non-profit organization active in the Solomon Islands, to promote environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture. Such efforts include establishing an agricultural training center, providing financial assistance for training courses held there, and supplying agricultural machinery in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

3. Comment from Morikawa CEO

"It is truly an honor to accept the Solomon Islands Meritorious Medal on this occasion on behalf of all Cosmo Oil Eco Card holders who share in our mission to protect the environment.

With the goal of combatting global warming, Cosmo Oil Eco Card Fund supports numerous ongoing projects to achieve self-sustaining economic growth and protect the environment in local communities. Commercial logging and slash-and-burn farming were common practices in the Solomon Islands back in the year 2000. Cosmo Oil Eco Card Fund partnered with APSD in 2002 to promote sustainable organic farming and industry, as well as to reduce development that has a significant burden on the environment. Our activities have led to the establishment of a sustainable organic farming model, which has in turn contributed to increased crop yield and varieties while helping to provide a stable income for the local community.

Going forward, we plan to export raw materials and products produced in the Solomon Islands, using the infrastructure and networks established by the Cosmo Energy Group, in order to ensure a more stable livelihood for community members through development of local industry. Specifically, we hope to provide a channel through which we can sell such goods by establishing a dedicated website targeted at Cosmo customers.

Furthermore, we are exploring the possibility of exporting and selling such raw materials and products in the Middle East where we have an established presence and maintain a close network. No other countries or organizations have given economic support by providing sales channels and we hope to be the model for others to follow.

The Cosmo Energy Group, together with Cosmo Oil Eco Card holders, will continue to engage in various activities to help substantially solve the problem of global warming by supporting economic growth and environmental conservation in the Solomon Islands."
