Cosmo Eco Power Signs Virtual PPA with Furukawa Electric for Enshu Wind Power Plant

Cosmo Eco Power Co., Ltd. (hereafter, “Cosmo Eco Power”), a subsidiary of Cosmo Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (hereafter, “Furukawa Electric”) have entered into a virtual Power Purchase Agreement¹ (PPA; hereafter, “the PPA”).

The PPA covers the Enshu Wind Power Plant (installed capacity: 6.33 MW), currently under construction by Cosmo Eco Power in Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Under the agreement, Furukawa Electric will receive the environmental attributes associated with approximately 10 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity generated annually at the plant, which is expected to result in an annual CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 4,200 tons.

In its “Environmental Targets 2030,” Furukawa Electric Group has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its business activities (Scopes 1 and 2) by at least 42% by FY2030 compared with FY2021 levels. In addition, under its “Environmental Vision 2050,” the Company aims to achieve net zero emissions across its entire value chain. To achieve these targets, the Group is advancing energy conservation initiatives at its facilities, installing solar power generation systems at its production sites, and purchasing renewable energy-derived electricity. The agreement with Cosmo Eco Power is part of these initiatives to achieve the above targets.

As a member of the Cosmo Energy Group, Cosmo Eco Power is working to develop and expand the supply of renewable energy, including wind power generation, in order to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Going forward, it remains committed to strengthening cooperation with corporate customers pursuing decarbonization, thereby contributing to the wider adoption of renewable energy and the growth of local communities.
