Supporting the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures
In December 2020, Cosmo Energy Holdings expressed support for and signed the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and joined the TCFD Consortium, a discussion forum for TCFD-participating companies and financial institutions.
The TCFD is a task force established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) to promote understanding and disclosure by companies concerning the financial implications of the risks and opportunities posed by climate change. The TCFD has published recommendations regarding voluntary information disclosure by companies.
Participation in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's GX League
Following its declaration of support for the Green Transformation (GX) League Basic Concept in April 2022, in fiscal 2023 Cosmo Energy Holdings began participating in the GX League created by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The GX League aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and help transform society by taking on the challenge of green transformation. It was established as a way for companies aiming to achieve sustainable growth in society to collaborate with other like-minded companies, as well as with government and academia, to undertake GX initiatives.
Keidanren Biodiversity Declaration Initiative
In January 2020, Cosmo Energy Holdings announced its support for the Declaration of Biodiversity by Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and Action Policy.
Companies and organizations that support the overall purpose of Declaration of Biodiversity by Keidanren and Action Policy and that adopt the nine principles listed in the Declaration are able to share information concerning their action policies for the future and examples of their activities for policy achievement.
Participation in the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures
In October 2023, Cosmo Energy Holdings participated in the TNFD Forum, which is made up of organizations and companies that support the activities of the Taskforce on Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
Launched in June 2021, TNFD is an international initiative to encourage private companies and financial institutions to appropriately assess and disclose risks and opportunities related to natural capital and biodiversity. Aiming for a model similar to the TCFD initiative, the TNFD is promoting the construction of a data disclosure framework concerning nature-related risks with the aim of shifting the flow of funds in a nature-positive direction.
The TNFD Forum provides various types of support based on specialized knowledge for building information disclosure frameworks and shares information related to the TNFD initiative.
Participation in the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity
In November 2023, Cosmo Energy Holdings joined the 30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity launched by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment.
The term “30 by 30” refers to the goal of effectively conserving 30% of the planet’s terrestrial and marine habitats by 2030. This is a nature- positive initiative that aims to halt the loss of biodiversity and to ensure a net positive impact on the natural environment.
Through our participation in this alliance, we will step up our efforts to conserve biodiversity and natural capital in order to help achieve the 30 by 30 goal.
